The hardest thing to accept about ATU Galway accommodation is that the university owns none of it — every bed is private — and the best-value option, the campus villages, allocate in spring, months before your CAO offer arrives on 26 August. If you wait for the offer, you've already missed them. For the full breakdown of every village and what's included, see our ATU Galway accommodation guide.
The closest thing to "on-campus" is Glasán Student Village, directly across the road from the Dublin Road campus. It runs on a random lottery, and for 2026/27 its application window (10–23 March) has already closed with the waiting list full. That timing is the whole lesson: Glasán's rooms — twin sharing through to double en-suite, with a flat €1,150 utilities charge on top — are gone before results season even starts. Two other private villages, Cúirt na Rásaí (near the racecourse) and Greystar's Canvas Cúirt na Coiribe (Headford Road), take bookings too, though you'll need to contact them directly for current rates. Gort na Coiribe is another option, but it sits beside the University of Galway, a 15-minute walk across the city from ATU.
If the villages are full, digs are your friend in Galway — a room in a family home, often with bills included, typically runs €450–€650 a month, and you'll find them through the ATU Students' Union StudentPad portal. Private house shares cluster in Ballybane, Renmore and out toward Oranmore and Athenry on the commuter rail line. One hard truth worth planning around: Galway student costs jumped roughly 18% for 2025/26, so cast a wide net and price in the commuter towns.
Getting to campus is straightforward — bus 409 runs from Eyre Square to the Dublin Road campus, and Galway is compact enough to cycle. A TFI Student Leap Card gets you about 50% off fares (note the €3/€12 daily/weekly Dublin fare cap doesn't apply in Galway).
Your plan: apply to the campus villages in January–February, line up digs through StudentPad from July, and have a backup ready before results. And before you pay anyone a deposit, read our guide to avoiding rental scams — never transfer money for a room you haven't seen.
