How to arrange an accessible or adapted room
The Fund for Students with Disabilities covers assistive technology, note-takers, academic and Deaf supports and transport — but not accommodation costs.
- Universities hold a limited number of wheelchair-accessible/adapted rooms, prioritised for verified needs — so start early (January).
- Register with the college disability/access service as soon as you can.
- Enter the normal accommodation application/lottery as well — the adapted-room process runs in parallel, not instead.
- Email the named accessible-accommodation contact with your specific needs and evidence.

Mature students & students with families
On-campus family accommodation is genuinely scarce — University of Limerick is the main mainstream provider of on-campus family apartments, while Maynooth explicitly states its residences aren't suitable for families, and most universities have no couples/family stock, leaving the private rental market. SUSI assesses many mature students as independent (only their own income counts) where they can evidence living independently.

Postgraduate students
Postgraduates are generally lower priority than first-year undergraduates for on-campus rooms — Trinity and UCD both steer most PGs to the private market. The exception is University of Limerick, which runs PG-only residences (Quigley, Brennan Court, Drominbeg) and atypically prioritises postgraduates. PGs often need longer 51-week / 12-month contracts because programmes run through summer.
