The catch is that it's small, first-year-focused, and allocated by a lottery that's drawn in January — so if you want it, you apply early and you understand the deposit. Courtbrack's 2026/27 rates are published and refreshingly clear: a standard single is €4,760 for the academic year, a deluxe single €5,126, and a twin €3,660 per person. The part that trips people up is the €850 deposit, which isn't really one deposit — it's a €250 refundable security deposit plus a €300 non-refundable utilities charge and a €300 non-refundable ESB (electricity) allowance, with any overspend on electricity coming out of your refundable bit. So budget the €600 of it as a cost, not a deposit. Booking forms go into a lottery drawn in January, and there's a sensible safety net: if you don't get the CAO points for MIC, you only forfeit a €100 administration charge rather than the lot.
If Courtbrack is full — and being small, it often is — the MIC Accommodation Office keeps a vetted list of digs and private rentals within walking distance of campus, around the South Circular Road and city-centre area. That vetted list is worth using over open sites.
Limerick is a compact, walkable city with good bus links, and Colbert Station gives you rail and coach connections for commuting from Ennis, Nenagh or Newcastle West. A Student Leap Card discounts fares.
So the plan for MIC is specific: submit a Courtbrack booking form as soon as forms appear (well before results, since it's a lottery not first-come), budget the real cost of that €850, and keep a digs backup from the Accommodation Office list.
