Where to get accommodation / who to contact
- MIC Accommodation Office (handles Thurles St Patrick's bookings): [email protected] or [email protected]; 061 302500. https://www.mic.ul.ie/study-at-mic/accommodation/book-mic-accommodation
- MIC Thurles campus: [email protected], 0504 20530.
- MIC Students' Union: [email protected], 061 400013 (Limerick, Mon-Fri 9am-5pm); accommodation advice at https://misu.ie/supports-advice-welfare/accommodation/ (lists Rent.ie for Thurles and surrounding areas).
- Private list: MIC Thurles private accommodation list (PDF, landlords register through the Accommodation Office).
1. At a glance
- In Thurles town, Co. Tipperary. Established in 1837 as a second-level school, later a major seminary, and incorporated into MIC in 2016. MIC's Thurles page lists seven undergraduate programmes in Education and Arts and postgraduate opportunities in middle leadership and mentoring.
- 180 parking spaces on campus; town described as well serviced by road and rail.
2. College-owned accommodation: St Patrick's on-campus
- 36 single en-suite bedrooms over three floors, for male and female first-year students (MIC accommodation, campus and student accommodation pages).
- 2026/27 fee: EUR 4,760 for an en-suite single; payable in two equal instalments or monthly.
- Deposit EUR 850, same structure as Courtbrack (MIC): EUR 250 refundable security deposit plus EUR 600 non-refundable utilities charge. The Courtbrack 2026/27 sheet splits the EUR 600 as EUR 300 utilities and EUR 300 ESB allowance; MIC does not publish a separate Thurles sheet.
- Rooms: bed, study desk, chair, storage, private bathroom (sink, toilet, shower); shared self-catering kitchen area, communal TV lounge, housekeeping.
- Allocation and application: via the MIC first-year booking process; the booking page said a lottery would be drawn in January 2026 and the first 55 St Patrick's forms drawn would be contacted about deposits. Applications for St Patrick's on-campus accommodation were shown as closed for the 2026 cycle. Phone the office on Leaving Cert results day and CAO offer day (lines 9:30am-9:30pm) or no room is held. Rooms cannot be held for second-round offers.
- Note on 36 versus 55: MIC's accommodation, campus and student-accommodation pages all state 36 en-suite bedrooms. The booking page's "55" is the number of lottery forms drawn and contacted about deposits (a larger number than the rooms, presumably to allow for drop-outs), not a room count.
- Contact: [email protected]; [email protected]; 061 302500. Apply: https://www.mic.ul.ie/study-at-mic/accommodation/book-mic-accommodation
3. Partner / private purpose-built accommodation
St Patrick's on-campus is MIC's accommodation in Thurles; MIC's Thurles guidance otherwise points to its private accommodation list (section 4).
4. Private renting and digs
- MIC publishes a St Patrick's Campus private accommodation list (PDF) compiled from landlords; MIC says it accepts no liability. The list includes single and double rooms, en-suites, house shares, apartments and whole houses; the list is for the 2026/27 academic year; landlord-quoted rents: single rooms EUR 70-150 a week, double rooms EUR 80-150, shared accommodation EUR 70-125, apartments typically EUR 350-1,200 a month (landlord-stated, not MIC rates). Distances from the college range from 150 metres to about 45 minutes' drive, with most options within 5-20 minutes.
- RTB Rent Index Q1 2026, Thurles LEA: new-tenancy figure withheld (too few observations); existing tenancies EUR 820 a month. Tipperary county, new tenancies, standardised average EUR 1,204 a month (whole dwelling).
5. Getting around
MIC states Thurles is well serviced by road and rail networks. TFI says student Leap Card holders get "up to 50% savings" (transportforireland.ie; no Thurles-specific fares are quoted here).
6. Supports

MIC Student Assistance Fund (via the Access & Disability Office, [email protected], 061 204 510): supports socioeconomically disadvantaged students and emergency needs such as rent, materials and childcare; no SUSI grant needed; autumn 2026 window 14 September to 13 October (MISU financial support page; 2027/28 dates not published). MISU Student Welfare Fund: short-term aid for a financial emergency, once per academic year, application form only ([email protected]). MISU also lists food supports. Student Finance Office: [email protected], 061 204312.
7. Accessibility
MIC Thurles Access & Disability contact: Nicola Moses, [email protected], 061 774773, Room 102 Main Building, Tues and Thurs 10:30am-3:30pm. DARE: https://accesscollege.ie.

9. Timeline for Sept 2027 entry
2026 cycle shown; 2027/28 dates not yet published. List MIC on CAO; apply for the on-campus lottery when MIC opens it (the 2026 lottery was due in January 2026); phone on results day and offer day; use the private list as backup.
10. Check before paying
Digs where the landlord lives in the same building are outside RTB oversight; student-specific accommodation deposits are capped at one month's rent and advance rent at one month (https://rtb.ie/renting/types-of-tenancies/student-specific-accommodation/). Do not pay before viewing.

How to ask the college
- How long is the contract, and what are the exact move-in and move-out dates?
- What's included in the rent (electricity, heating, Wi-Fi, bins, insurance)?
- How much is the deposit, and when and how is it refunded?
- What are the cancellation terms if you don't get your CAO offer or change course?
- Are there rules for first years (priority, distance rules, age limits, lotteries)?
If you don't get a room
- Ask the accommodation office about waiting lists and late availability.
- Use the college's own listing service or students' union listings shown on this page.
- Consider digs (a room in a family home): see the digs and rent-a-room guide.
- Work out whether commuting is realistic using the transport details on this page.
- Start looking in spring. Don't wait for CAO offers in August.
Scam warning
