Unlike its Waterford sibling, SETU Carlow has no university-owned residence — so it's a private-provider market, and a small one, which means the rooms go fast. Carraig Abhainn sits more or less opposite the campus, a two-minute walk, and its 2026/27 monthly rates are published: a two-bed apartment around €884, an en-suite room €816, a large room €766, and a single €721, with bills included to a standard limit and a €500 deposit (€100 of it non-refundable) on a 40-week lease. Hatch Riverbank, about ten minutes' walk away in the town centre, runs on a weekly model — a Bronze twin at €171 a week, with most of the dearer en-suite tiers already sold out for 2026/27. Hatch includes all bills plus superfast WiFi, charges a €300 admin fee, asks for a parental guarantor, and throws in a gym and an events programme. A third option, Arinaga Townhouses, exists too, but you'll need to contact them directly for current rates.
The recurring theme is scarcity — there simply aren't many beds in Carlow, and Hatch's sold-out tiers prove it — so book the moment a window opens. Beyond the blocks, digs and house shares (roughly €115–€155 a week) are listed through SETUStudentPad.
Carlow is well placed for commuting: its rail station is on the Dublin Heuston–Waterford line, about an hour and a quarter to Dublin, and the town itself is compact and walkable.
