University of Galway has one big advantage over its Dublin rivals: it's a compact, walkable city, so on-campus living is far from your only good option. The three on-campus villages are allocated by computer lottery, and the application window is early — 14 April to 5 May 2026 — so this is one you can't leave until the summer.

The three villages
Corrib, Goldcrest and Dunlin are all on or beside campus and managed by Campus Living/Atalia. Corrib is the cheapest and most varied, with twin rooms from about €368/month; Goldcrest (2018) and Dunlin (2023) are newer and all en-suite, from around €746.80/month. Budget beyond the headline rent: there's a €250 booking deposit, a rental deposit and a ~€450–€600 utility prepayment on top.
How the lottery works
Submit one application during the 14 April – 5 May window. Allocation is a computer lottery, so early ≠ better — but you must apply in-window. Offer rounds run in May and June, with a further lottery in late August for cancellations after CAO Round 1, so stay on the waiting list if you miss out first time.
Why digs and a bike are your secret weapons
Galway is small enough that many students walk or cycle everywhere, which means living slightly further out — Salthill, Knocknacarra, Newcastle, Renmore — is genuinely practical. Digs are common and good value here; source them through the university's Rent-a-Room page and vetted StudentPad rather than open ads.
A free shuttle runs from the North Campus Park & Ride, and city buses cost about €0.75 with a Student Leap Card. Note the €3/€12 Leap fare cap is Dublin-only.
