UCD has the most on-campus beds of any Dublin university, but demand massively outstrips supply — only about 25% of continuing-student applicants get an offer. The students who land well are the ones who treat on-campus as a hopeful bonus and have a digs or house-share plan ready from day one.

Why Belfield fills up so fast
UCD's Belfield campus is around 4 km south of Dublin city centre and houses a dozen residences — the biggest on-campus stock in Dublin. But with a student body this large, a lottery is the only fair way to allocate rooms, and the odds for continuing students sit around 25%.

The dates that matter for 2026
CAO first-year applications open on 6 April 2026, with offers issued 28–30 August. Continuing-student applications open earlier, on 9 March. Apply the day your window opens and register on the UCD Accommodation Pad immediately as a backup.
Because allocation is a lottery, applying early doesn't raise your CAO odds — but missing the window removes you entirely.
What it costs
The cheapest on-campus option is a shared-bedroom Village twin at around €5,722/year per person, followed by off-campus Blackrock Halls (~€7,071/year). En-suite Village rooms and the catered Roebuck Castle climb toward €10,000–€12,000/year. Utilities (~€60.80/month) and €35 insurance are billed on top, and a €750 deposit applies.
Digs through the UCD Accommodation Pad typically run €120–€150/week and are often the most affordable route.
Getting around without a Luas
Belfield has no Luas or DART on campus — it's bus-dependent, with a campus terminus serving 16 routes along the N11/Stillorgan Road corridor. Factor commute time when you weigh up cheaper areas like Clonskeagh, Goatstown and Dundrum, and use a Student Leap Card for 50% off with the €3/day Dublin cap.
Your backup plan and the money side
Register on the UCD Accommodation Pad for digs and house shares, and start searching early — D6 and D4 neighbourhoods are competitive. If your home is 30 km or more from UCD you qualify for SUSI's higher non-adjacent rate, and parents can claim the €1,000 Rent Tax Credit for a student child's rent.
