Campus is a lottery — and oversubscribed
UCC's six campus complexes are allocated by random lottery, with first offers by email in early April. The cheapest is a Castlewhite twin at €3,816/year (no en-suite); en-suite rooms at University Hall or Victoria Mills reach €6,305/year, plus €650 utilities and a €300 deposit. Why January matters
Cork's student market moves early. UCC warns that many private options are gone by the end of February, so the window to act is January–February — well before you have a CAO offer. Build your shortlist early and be ready to move.
Use UCC's private-complex price list
UCC publishes an unusually good official comparison of around 25 private complexes — Scholarlee, Deans Hall, Brookfield, the Yugo blocks and more — with provider emails, distances and prices. Use it to compare like-for-like, and read each provider's cancellation policy before paying any holds, because deposits range from €99 to a full month's rent.
For vetted digs and house shares, use UCC StudentPad rather than open ads.
Getting around and the money side
Most campus complexes are a 5–15 minute walk, and Kent Station connects commuter towns like Cobh, Midleton and Mallow — a real option with a Student Leap Card. If your home is 30 km or more from UCC you qualify for SUSI's higher non-adjacent rate, and the €1,000 Rent Tax Credit covers digs.
