How the booking events work
Rooms are booked online during timed Booking Events by category, with about 50% reserved for new first-years. Unlike a lottery, these are served first-come/first-paid by room type during the event — and you can't book as a group of friends. On the day, log in promptly on a laptop (not a phone) with your CAO/student number, PPS and a working bank card ready, and complete right through to "Finish". What it costs — bills included
On-campus rooms range from €4,988/year for a shared-bathroom room (SSB) to €6,488/year for an own-en-suite room (SES). A €500 one-off utilities charge covers electricity, gas and water, so bills are effectively included. The en-suite vs shared difference is about €1,500/year — worth weighing up.
The rail link changes the maths
Maynooth's biggest asset is the train. The station is a 5–10 minute walk from campus and reaches Dublin Connolly in about 44 minutes, with cheaper commuter towns like Leixlip, Kilcock and Celbridge along the line. With a Student Leap Card and the €12/week Dublin cap, commuting can be dramatically cheaper than renting — and on-campus covers only about 10% of students, so most people commute or take digs anyway.
Digs, private rental and money
The Residence Office compiles off-campus lists including digs (~€120–€150/week Mon–Fri), and house shares run ~€500–€700+/month.
