Dundalk is, first and foremost, a commuter campus — and that, plus rents at roughly half Dublin levels, makes DkIT one of the better-value places to study on the east coast. DkIT owns no accommodation itself but facilitates a set of provider-run halls, with the rest of the market in digs and private rentals. Our DkIT accommodation guide has the breakdown.
The provider-run halls are the nearest thing to on-campus living. Green Park is on campus (a single in a five-bed apartment, or pricier A-rated en-suite houses), The Launchpad is just off it, and Setanta Oriel and Mourne View Hall are a short walk away. The figures DkIT publishes for these come from its 2025/26 guide and the guide itself says to confirm with each provider, so treat them as indicative and get the current 2026/27 rate and deposit directly before committing — and note DkIT specifically says it has no oversight of Mourne View, so inspect that one in person.
For digs and house shares, the DkIT Students' Union runs the listings board, and rooms here are genuinely affordable — typically €100–€150 a week, well below Dublin. That value is the real draw of Dundalk.
The transport story is excellent: Dundalk Clarke Station is on the Belfast–Dublin mainline, and DkIT runs a free term-time shuttle from the station to campus. Bus Éireann's 100X also links to Dublin, and private operators run commuter coaches. Plenty of students live at home along that corridor — Drogheda, even Dublin — and commute in.
So weigh it up: a provider hall for the full campus experience, cheaper digs through the SU board, or commuting by rail with that free shuttle. Whatever you choose, confirm hall prices in writing, view before you pay, and know your renter rights. International students in particular should lock in accommodation before booking flights — the how-to-apply guide covers the sequence.
