IADT in Dún Laoghaire has no on-campus accommodation at all — the college says so plainly — which means you need to start earlier than students at colleges with halls. Because there are no halls, digs — a room in a local family home — are the smart first-year move, and they're plentiful in Dún Laoghaire, Monkstown, Glasthule, Sallynoggin and Blackrock. They're often cheaper than a full house share, frequently include bills, and hosts are motivated by the rent-a-room tax relief. The official place to search is IADT's StudentPad portal. Private house shares are the other mainstay, though south Dublin is pricey — widening your search out along the DART to Bray or Greystones can get you better value for a slightly longer commute.
What about purpose-built blocks? The nearest sizeable PBSA is in Dublin city centre — places like aparto Beckett House (from around €267 a week, bills and contents insurance included) — but be realistic: those are built for the city-centre colleges, and living there means commuting back out to Dún Laoghaire. For most IADT students, suburban digs beat a city-centre room.
Transport has a couple of quirks worth knowing. IADT is in the Dublin fare zone, so the Student Leap Card's €3-a-day, €12-a-week cap applies — a real saving. But the campus is about 3 km inland from the Dún Laoghaire DART station, so you'll usually pair the DART with a connecting bus (the E2 or L27), both covered by that cap.
So: start your digs search early through StudentPad, consider the DART corridor for value, and — because IADT doesn't vet listings — be especially careful with your deposit and scam awareness. Never pay for a room you haven't seen.
